Use this procedure when a representative request completes but Trace Explorer shows no matching trace.
Checks
- Confirm the correct client, time zone, and time range.
- Remove service, operation, duration, and status filters.
- Verify that tracing is enabled and that your role can view traces.
- Confirm that the application creates and ends spans for the test request.
- Verify the configured endpoint, protocol, client identifier, and credentials without printing secrets.
- Check exporter or collector logs for authentication, connection, timeout, or rejection errors.
- Review sampling rules and ensure the test trace is eligible to be retained.
- Repeat with one uniquely named test operation and search for that operation.
If other services appear, compare their endpoint and resource configuration with the failing service. If no services appear, verify client-level enablement and network access before changing application code.
When escalating, provide UTC timestamps, service and operation names, the export protocol, sanitized error messages, and whether any other service can send traces.
