Send a representative request through the application and confirm that its trace is visible in OpsRamp.

Check the application and exporter

  1. Trigger a request that exercises the instrumented operation.
  2. Confirm the application emits spans with the intended service.name.
  3. Check application, Collector, or trace-proxy logs for endpoint, DNS, TLS, authentication, or export errors.
  4. If available, record the trace ID from application logs or a response header so you can locate the same trace in the UI.

Find the trace in OpsRamp

  1. Open the trace views for the intended client/tenant with a user who has TRACE_VIEW access.
  2. Select a time range that includes the test request.
  3. Filter by the application’s service name or search using the trace ID.
  4. Open the result and confirm that expected spans, parent-child relationships, timing, and status are present.

Trace visibility can be affected by the configured collection path, export batching, and trace-proxy sampling rules. Check those settings before concluding that a missing trace indicates an application instrumentation failure.

Troubleshoot

SymptomCheck
No export attemptsConfirm the SDK is initialized, spans are created, and the exporter is configured for traces.
Connection or timeout errorsCheck endpoint spelling, DNS, port reachability, firewall rules, and proxy routing.
TLS errorsConfirm the endpoint's TLS configuration and that the runtime trusts the issuing certificate.
Authentication or tenant errorsVerify the credential type, tenant ID, required headers, and endpoint against the tenant's Trace Setup instructions.
Trace is present but service is unexpectedSet a stable service.name and confirm it is passed by the SDK.
Some spans are absentCheck sampling configuration, exporter batching, and whether the test exercised the expected downstream operations.

If the issue persists, collect a trace ID, approximate timestamp, service name, selected collection path, and redacted exporter error. Never attach credentials or unredacted secret-bearing configuration to a support request.
