Two ways to build a trace query, switchable at any time.

Basic (facet pills)

Add filters as pills; values are suggested from live data. Common facets:

  • Service — service = "api-gateway"
  • Operation — operation = "POST /api/checkout"
  • Application — app = "ecommerce"
  • Transaction type / category — web / non‑web · HTTP, Database, Messaging, RPC
  • Kind — server, client, producer, consumer, internal
  • Error status — error = "true"
  • Infrastructure — cluster / namespace / pod
  • Duration — span duration thresholds

Advanced editor

Write the query directly with set‑based and boolean expressions:

service IN ("api", "payment") AND error = "true"

Supported operators include =, IN, AND/OR, and comparison for duration. Use advanced mode for combinations beyond simple pills.

Error‑code facet

Error Code Series is a regex over status codes that defines what counts as an error (default 5.*; e.g. 5.*|4.*).
