Introduction
The HPE MSL Tape Library integration monitors HPE MSL tape libraries via the Command View Tape Library (CVTL) REST API, discovers tape libraries, drives, tapes, and backup hosts, and collects metrics for library status, drive health, capacity planning, and tape utilization.
The following helps you get started.
- To explore monitored metrics, see Supported Metrics and Default Monitoring Configuration.
- To verify prerequisites and configure, see Working with HPE MSL Tape Library.
Key Use Cases
Discovery Use Cases
- Discovers 5 resource types such as HPE CVTL Manager, HPE MSL Library, HPE MSL Drive, HPE MSL Tape, and HPE MSL Host.
- Publishes relationships between resources to provide a topological view.
- For detailed structure, see Resource Hierarchy.
Monitoring Use Cases
- Publishes 56 metrics across categories such as Availability, Performance, Usage.
- Supports threshold-based alerting for metrics where alerting is enabled in the workbook.
Supported Target Versions
- HPE MSL6480, MSL3040, MSL2024 tape libraries with CVTL REST API enabled.
- CVTL API versions supporting /rest/cvtl/ and /rest/index/ endpoints.

Version History
| Application Version | Bug fixes / Enhancements |
|---|---|
| 1.1.0 | This implementation introduces third-party CI alert mapping and OpsQL-based enhancements.Configure alert mappings to target CI systems through the application configuration. After configuration, the system automatically forwards alerts to the corresponding third-party platforms and maps them to the specified CIs, ensuring consistent integration and efficient alert management.Previously, resource filters in the app configuration required manual entry of resource core and custom attributes. With this enhancement, the configuration is moved to OpsQL-based filtering, where users can see the keys auto-populated as needed. |
| 1.0.1 | Corrected derive total written GB metric calculation. |
| 1.0.0 | Initial Discovery and monitoring support for HPE MSL Tape Library. |
